Uses of PictureCard Communication Systems

PictureCard Communication Systems have been used at the Carleton Heights Community Centre`s "Fun and Learn Program for Children with Autism".  These pre-schoolers found it easier to transition from one activity to another with the use of the "visual schedule".

Our System has also been used by special needs workers helping children who are non-verbal. With the use of PictureCard Communication Systems, these children are learning to recognize family members, develop "matching" skills, and make activity choices.  In addition, through the use of the PictureCards, some of the children are learning to recognize simple words — sometimes with, and sometimes without, pictures.

The PictureCard Communication System products are also now used in nursing homes for people who have lost the ability to speak through strokes, head and other injuries.

The PictureCard Communication System can be used to create PictureCards, puzzles, reinforcer puzzles, visual schedules, matching materials, visual step-by-step checklists, etc. We are limited only by our "collective" imagination. The individual PictureCards can depict pictures of people, places, foods, furniture, rooms, activities, and so on. The PictureCards can be created with or without "words".

Personalization of PictureCard Communication Systems

If you would like your PictureCards "personalized", please provide us with digitial photographs l (300 dpi) of your child and family members, and favourite items, foods, activities and places. We have found that children with special needs generally understand pictures far more easily if they depict items from their own environment.

The image backgrounds will be deleted to remove distractions. We will then add one- or two-word descriptions under the pictures using the exact words that you use with your child. The images will then be sized, printed and laminated.
